Change Is Hard

Walktober – Penny style

Hey you guys! I’ve been thinking about this Walktober thing. Mom says you go for a walk and then share it with everybody. Well. I went for a walk last Friday that was very October-ish so let me show you!

It all started last Friday when I met some of my group walk doggie friends in a parking lot in Fenton Michigan. We go for walks in different places around here every Friday evening. It’s supposed to help me hang with other dogs without stressing so much. Mostly it’s a fun thing to do.

But this walk was entirely different! Fenton was filled with lots and lots of people, most of them witches! They were everywhere!

I wasn’t at all sure this was a good idea, but I was game to walk along because all the other dogs didn’t seem to think this was weird. Plus my mom was right next to me and she had the good treats in her pocket.

Lots of the witches wanted to meet me and a few of them smelled like nice people.

Mostly I just watched them come and go.

Mom asked me to sit next to things and mostly I said OK, but I refused to look happy about it.

I mean…really mom? This is what you call a Walktober?

It ended up being OK…I got lots of treats from mom, and then I slept all the way home.

I don’t know. I thought Walktober was supposed to be about colored leaves and stuff. I mean, I sat in my own back yard Friday afternoon and that was pretty.

I don’t know what mom is doing for her own Walktober. She has to travel again real soon but she says she’ll get it all done! I hope hers isn’t as scary as mine was!

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  2. You were a good girl, sweet Penny. I would be a little unnerved seeing so many “witches”, too.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend. It is raining here in Central VA; Henri recommends take a late morning nap. I hear him softly snoring. 💕 😊

  3. We are north of you Penny. It’s beautiful up at the lake, the colors are stunning and we might step out. For walktober of our own today. Trust your mom, she’d never put you in danger!

    • We’ve worked on training Pen to look for one of us when she gets scared v.s. going crazy. Sometimes it works. Especially if she’s outside her own home. She looked at me a lot on that walk! I told her she was a good girl and gave her a treat.

  4. Penny, it might have been a bit scary, but it was cool to see this gathering of witches. I especially like the photo of the witches on the bench.

  5. Penny, I have to say I like YOUR idea of Walktober MUCH better than your Mom’s!!!! lol!!! You didn’t look thrilled looking at those strange people! Mom and I thought you looked gorgeous sitting in your leaves in your OWN yard!! Love, Levi

  6. Oh, Penny, the expression on your face is exactly the same as the one I see on the Monk’s when he’s unnerved by a strange situation. He’s usually okay with people — it’s dogs that cause him concern. No clue what he’d do if he saw witches!! I really enjoyed your Walktober though — especially the picture of you being all calm in your own backyard — and the happy, grinning one above it! Such a pretty girl you are!

    • Penny is really a happy to stay at home dog. I’ve been taking her out to places against her will. 🙂 She loves her house and her backyard and her daddy. Not necessarily in that order. Oh. She also loves me.

  8. Penny, I’m glad you “smiled” for us toward the end of your “Walktober” because you sure didn’t look happy earlier, especially next to that big ol’ skeleton. At least there were treats involved and treats make the world a better place and less bewitching, right?

  9. Hi Penny. Witches (real witches) are actually really nice people and don’t dress like the women you saw. Witches are just real people, dressed like the rest of us, with beliefs that might be a bit different from the usual mainstream religions. So very sorry Penny that those women scared you. “Walktober” here in the Pacific NW of the USA is just that … a walk-about in the country, seeing the autumn leaves, listening to a river flow with new-found rain water, listening to the birds. No fake witches!! 🙂

  11. That’s a lot of witches in one place. Reminds me of Salem, MA. You are very brave Penny, people do really weird things sometimes, especially in October. Our neighbor hung a fake witch from a tree branch, and Chewy makes sure to bark at it every time it sways in the wind.

Your yard looks really pretty. I bet the crunchy leaves and pine needles on the ground make for good sniffing. Enjoy these beautiful Fall days Penny! They are special.
