Katie says – I went camping with my Mama
Katie here! Mama says she got a new blog! And it took her forever to let me on. Yes it did. A whole week! So anyway…I haven’t been to my school in like THREE WEEKS! Mama has been having adventures of her own and I got left behind at a kennel! NOT FAIR Mama! So I told her, yes I did, I told her she better shape up or I was going to go find a better Mama. One who took my on adventures! And did fun things with me! And played with me all the time! That is not too much to expect, me being a princess and all. No it is not.
And do you know what my Mama did? She put up the BIG TENT! We got to go camping!!!
She didn’t put the rain flap on because she said it would be like sleeping under the stars and it was! It was wonderful! Ok, there weren’t any stars because it was cloudy…but there wasn’t any rain either, so Mama and I slept really good! I slept upside down most of the night on my pile of pillows. Hey! Let me show you around my tent!
Come one in! It’s a little messy right now because Mama hasn’t made the bed yet. You know how Mama is.
Of course my spot would be right here, on the blown up bed with my own personal window. And the good pillow of course.
Oh! Mama says I have to get OFF the bed. Geesh. OK, it’s true this tent has a little window just for me. And that Mama put lots of pillows for me next to it. I guess it’s just as good.
See? It just perfect for me!
I didn’t want to go back in the house this morning. I’d rather stay outside and play, take a nap in my tent, then play some more. Oh wait. Did you say that my breakfast was inside? Coming Mama!
Mama says we can camp out again tonight! I can not WAIT! But I gotta get a nap in first. Adventures are so exhausting.
Wordless Wednesday
Katie says
Katie here. Mama says she’s too tired to write this morning, and she has to go to that stupid Weight Watchers meeting anyway. I hate Weight Watchers because Mama doesn’t eat all those good things anymore. And if Mama doesn’t eat that stuff, then she can’t accidentally drop that stuff. So what Mama doesn’t eat, I don’t get to eat either! How unfair.
Anyway, here it is Saturday already and she didn’t even post the pictures from the excellent adventure we went on last Saturday! It was a beautiful day, unlike today, and we had the park all to ourselves.
Mama even let me run a little bit without my leash! Of course I always came right back to her when she called me. She called a lot, if you don’t mind me saying. I think she should trust me more, but you know how Mama’s are.
I don’t think we’re going to be able to go back to the park today. It’s supposed to rain. And Mama seems so tired all the time. Do you know she came home from that work place last night and went straight to bed? No playing with my bunny or my ball or even with my frog!
I just don’t understand. When I used to go to work, um, I mean school, I always had a good time. Mama just needs to learn to have fun no matter where she is right? Unless it’s the groomer. I don’t think anyone can have fun at the groomer.
Anyway, that was my excellent adventure last weekend. Guess I’ll go take a nap now.
Back yard color
I thought I had missed fall during the week we were out of town. We left when there were still lots of green leaves, and came back to many bare branches.
This past week I went to work early in the morning and returned after dark, either because of work or band events. Thursday I finally came home before dark and realized that we still have lots of pretty colors in the yard.
Katie and I went out to play Frisbee this afternoon. I, of course, took the camera.
She had a blast running around,
and ignoring her Mama.
Though sometimes she’d sit in front of a pretty tree or shrub.
If I asked nicely.
So I did.
Home again
Just got back from picking up the Katie-girl.
The woman manning the front desk at the kennel told the helper person to get “the calm Sheltie.” Right. They said she was “really quiet.” Right. That she “liked to run in circles in her pen.” Really?
She barked at me the entire way home. After two walks around the yard to sniff everything and a rousing game of frisbee in the back yard she’s finally settled down with a big sigh for a nap.
We got home at 2:30 a.m. last night. I could do with a nap myself. More on our trip later. (Thanks Ellen for the post about our visit!)
Yawn.
Sunflower inspiration
Out along a country road someone plants sunflowers. They crowd each other between the corn fields and the road. They go on for almost a mile. Every year I remind myself that I need to stop and take pictures. Every year the frost gets to them before I do.
But this year I was inspired by PJ’s sunflower photo, and the one over on Gerry’s blog. So last weekend Katie and I went out specifically to get some photos. Katie had to stay in the car, but she was OK with that.
I had a great time standing among the sunflowers.
She’s gotten used to this Mama and the camera thing. As long as she gets to ride in the car she’s totally supportive.
Treats are good too.
One mile in
So my training for next year’s ten mile road race starts this week, with me running/walking 1 mile 3x a week. My first mile was scheduled for this weekend.
I finished mowing the grass about 4:30 today and thought, ‘it’s a beautiful day, sunshine, cool, a nice breeze. It’s never going to get any better than this. So get yourself out there.’ I think I have been worried about how it would go, so have been avoiding the run all weekend.
I changed my clothes and got ready to leave. But Katie had other ideas. She figures, if Mama goes, Katie goes. And she has really big eyes when she’s begging. I figured I was going to walk most of it anyway, so I hooked her leash up and off we went.
We ran most of the first quarter – she thought I was chasing her and it was all a game – till she saw her first chipmunk. Then she was all business. We ran and walked the rest of the way to the 1/2 way turn around point. I was pretty proud of her. But on the way back she refused to run at all. Every time I started jogging she just stopped cold. Silly girl. So we pretty much walked back. With 1/4 mile left to go she asked to be picked up. I told her she was a woose. And I carried her a little bit, cause I’m a pushover. I told her that she should realize that I was going to have to go back out when we got home and do this all over again. She said she didn’t care.
So when we got home I made her supper and then headed back out. Ran the 1/2 mile to the turn around, walked a bit and pretty much ran the rest of the way back home. It felt good to be running. It felt really good when I got back back home and could stop running. I haven’t been this sweaty in a very long time.
Guess Katie’s walk was a good warm up. She’s sound asleep now.
You want me to look WHERE Mama?
It’s cold and really windy, but this afternoon the sun came out so Katie and I took advantage of the perception of warmth and went for a drive. Mama took the camera. Katie sighed.
We went to a park that has a children’s play area. There’s a big sign filled with all the rules; one says ‘no pets.’
But since there wasn’t anyone around and since Katie can’t read we wandered in anyway.
Are you sure we can be here Mama?
It smells like children! You know I don’t especially like children. They’re noisy. Noisier than me. And that’s saying something.
Hey, there’s lots of places to sniff. Wait. You want me to sit where? Under these weird things? OK. But I’ not going to look at you.
Nope just not gonna do it.
Darn! You got me!
Now wait a minute. You want me to climb up THERE? Oh yea. I can do that! But I’m not gonna look at you. You might as well face it.
Hey Mama this is fun and everything, but can we just go for a walk out in the grass?
I sat good for all your stupid pictures, so can we, can we? Just go nose around all that pretty grass for awhile?
Of course we can baby-girl. Right after one last shot.
