I suppose anything, photographed in closeup, could seem out of this world.
And as I walk the backyard here at the lake and step on the sweetgum tree seed pods I notice that many of them look like horrified alien faces.
So I gather some up and set them out on the dock in order to take advantage of the late afternoon light.
You can’t deny there’s someone or something out of this world hiding in there.
Would you like to see a few other out of this world images? Here, here and here are a few of my favorites so far.

Horrified alien faces indeed! Well done! Nature seems to be filled with many ‘out of the world’ type images – see mine here: https://wp.me/p2CNyA-3tc and thanks for sharing your fun take on the challenge 🙂

Very alien! Very horrified! When I first saw the picture, I thought of the horse chestnuts that used to fall off our tree in New York State.

I wonder if sweet gum and horse chestnuts are related?

Very dangerous indeed. Especially while walking the dog at night. You have to keep your eyes on these little guys. Never know what they’re up to.

What is scaring your aliens? Is it the camera?

That’s generally the way it works. But could also be the lake level coming up, or our plans for one last burn of sticks and leaves on the beach. They’re doomed.

Huh. I wouldn’t have thought of that, but they’d be pretty that way.

My Canadian relatives always want to pack some fascinating gumballs back to Canada. I encourage them to take all they can handle. I despise them for they have tripped me up, gotten wedged in horses feet and they enjoy becoming kamikaze missiles when exiting a mower at 100 mph.
