We’ve had days and days of dark sky, rain and cold wind. Though we haven’t had snow or even temps as cold as usual for early January, it’s been pretty miserable.
And then the sun came out.
The temperatures climbed into the fifties and it smelled like spring. For a brief moment I felt the unfurling of joy at the thought winter was over.
And then I remembered it was only January and I laughed at myself.
We had two lovely days of sunshine and warm temperatures. That and my Katie-girl made me smile.
What made you smile this past week?

A little touch of spring in early January. Most years we have what is called “January thaw” where we have a few spring-like days in early January and all of the snow melts skiers hate it, as do snowmobilers, but everyone else loves January Thaw…. BTW, the title of this post reminds me of a John Denver song…

lol, It’s dangerous to post references to 40 year old songs that they don’t even play on 70s only stations any more… Glad you enjoyed the sunshine 🙂

I remember the January thaw when we lived in the Northwest. Fooled us into thinking spring had arrived. And then of course we remembered that couldn’t happen because it would wreak havoc on the apples in the multitude of orchards that surrounded us. So unselfishly we would welcome the cold and snow again for a few more months.
We’ve had cold weather here in the desert as well. Low 30s at night and low 50s in the day time with a stiff wind. But we almost always have sun, which makes me smile.
Today it is 62, and my smile is getting broader by the day as the temperatures warm and we don’t have to worry about the apples, but look forward to a blooming desert on a few months.

We only had one warm day but it was cloudy. We went for a walk at the Cumberland Heritage Village. It’s closed right now so the dogs are allowed to go on the property.

We shared in similar weather, Dawn, and it was indeed wonderful! I don’t mind the cold as much as I mind the dreariness and the rain. Now we’ve got wind. But at least there’s sunshine to go with it!

Yes, I don’t like the rain either. Tonight was the first rehearsal of our band since our concert in December. We have had a full month off. It was hard to go out and drive this evening in the dark and rain, but once I got there and we started playing it was all OK again.

Playing in band always makes everything better!! Our first rehearsal is next week; we, too, have been off nearly a month. Eager to see what we’ll be working on for our two spring concerts!!

Hi Dawn, well, your photo of all those little tree fungi made me smile. Don’t know why, but I love shots like this. Something about a point of view that one might completely miss and walk right by – until a good photographer drags me back to enjoy a simple joy right in front of me. Thanks
