Still smiling

I have a lot going on, some of which you’ll undoubtedly read about next week. But I didn’t want this week to get away without smiling.

Now I know you’ve seen my ‘through the window’ bird shots just last post.

Look at all the detail in her feathers. There are little white hearts in there, perfect for February and Valentine’s Day.

And I know she’s just a starling, though as a European starling I guess she is rather exotic.

But since I’d never seen one before, and since she stops by every day now to get some lunch, and since I think she’s just so darn cute I thought you wouldn’t mind seeing her again.

A girl’s got to be nimble to get the good stuff here at the bottom.

Because she makes me smile every time I see her chowing down on that suet.

Who say’s I’m chowing, lady? I’m daintily having brunch.

Oh…and these guys make me smile too.

I like the bird flying away in the background.

And this one…

Maybe she won’t notice me way over here.

And even this one.

Just pretend I’m a bird, OK lady?

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school.     The European Starling is beautiful! And she is definitely chowing down! 🙂 That bird flying in the background….!! Great shots, Dawn.

      Thanks Lois. I think the bird flying is a red-bellied woodpecker. Or not. Yea, she’s definitely chowing, and she chases any other bird that wants suet away, including blue jays that are bigger than her. She’s quite the pig, which is probably how she gets her plumpish figure.

    The detail on the bird’s feathers is amazing. The attitude on the squirrel’s face is to be expected I suppose.

      Yes those little red squirrels have quite an attitude. They’ll chase bigger squirrels away if there’s a reduced amount of food available. And one ate my wren baby chicks one year, so they’re not my favorite, but sometimes I forget all that and think they are cute.

    Thanks for checking on Benji. We are still trying to cope with everything. Benji is being very clingy to me, but that is understandable. We got back Lassie’s ashes on Friday. Change is definitely hard.

    I need to get a suet holder. I can watch the birds at my feeder from the family room. I only seem to get chickadees and my cardinals. I think they live in the cedar hedge. No squirrels. I put the feeder where they can’t reach it.
