I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

Ha! This one looks like he is stalking a cat!

Squirrels, all sizes and colors, have been lounging on the deck railing. Sometimes with their eyes closed. They flatten right out, hang their legs over the edge and relax, high enough to survey their kingdom, warming their tummies on the sun baked railing. Katie doesn’t even bark at them any more unless they move.

I love it. I’ve never seen a squirrel in quite that position. A yoga asana, perhaps?

I didn’t actually get him in his full-out relaxed position…he’s got his feet under him to move because he saw me taking a picture. When he’s napping his little feet hang down on both sides, or sometimes the back legs go into the ‘frog’ position, pushed out behind him flat. They like to nap next to the filled bird bath where they also can sip whenever they feel like it. I think they are feeling quite fine living here with us.

He looks all tuckered out from the heat maybe?

Yep, they all are. All the squirrels do this, the big ones and these little ones. The chipmunks don’t. I think they’re just worn out by the heat.

Definitely hot. We’re at day 9 of temperatures in the 90s and little to no rain. They are grateful for my birdbaths which I keep full and they drink from. Also for the seed that I ‘accidentally’ drop on the ground for them.

Me too. I hope it’s better where you are at the moment, but suppose it may not be. Have hope, we might get rain in the next few days. We got a tiny bit yesterday but nothing that would really help.

I love squirrels. We had one in a bird feeder one day that was sound asleep. Tail hanging out of the feeder and all. Great pic of the lounging squirrel. I guess they get hot and need to stop and relax.

Yep I think so. I had one in the bird feeder like that too, all spread out like a teen age boy on the living room sofa.

My son and his friends call this flattened out squirrel position “bro-chilling.” Don’t ask me why, but I can’t help thinking it’s just too cute. Bet the Princess was watching from inside, even if she wasn’t giving chase, right?!

I like it…bro-chilling…they do lounge around like teenagers, particularly teenage boys. Katie watches constantly. She lets them know when they’ve crossed the line. They don’t seem to care.
