Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

This post is going to try to figure out how to insert other types of pictures. The old WordPress let you do collages, and small images, and place them to the left or right. The new blockhead WordPress, so far, hasn’t let me do any of that.

So here goes.

Nope that didn’t work….but I can make headings….

And I can add a picture and words in the same block…

And I found a sort of collage, see above on the right. I don’t know why it ended up there…or why it’s all crunched together when I preview it, it’s not that way in the edit mode…but that’s the way of WordPress’s blockhead new program. I wonder if I can find other things.

And you know what else? I can’t figure out how to eliinate an image I insert. Once something is there I can replace it with something else…but not eliminate it totally. Well. That’s odd. And annoying.

Forest.

Even a child knows how valuable the forest is. The fresh, breathtaking smell of trees. Echoing birds flying above that dense magnitude. A stable climate, a sustainable diverse life and a source of culture. Yet, forests and other ecosystems hang in the balance, threatened to become croplands, pasture, and plantations.

I can add an image inside an image, but I didn’t choose the forest, it got chosen for me.

I don’t know….all I’ve figured out is that there’s a lot more to find if I take the time. But not everything works the way I think it should.

I guess I need to keep digging.

The randomness is intentional, because that’s the way I feel about the “new” WordPress.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. Yep, random describes the WP blockhead editor perfectly. I like all of your attempts, but the real question is: can you do them again on purpose? 🤨

  2. I’m sticking with the Classic Admin. I like how you moved your photos around (Katie in the middle of the forest is adorable), but I’m afraid if I hit Block editor just to try it–I would be stuck with it. That would be a nightmare for me.

  3. The killer here is that once we do get blockhead figured out, they’ll change it again. Sometimes progress isn’t a good thing.

  4. Ahhhh, it is so refreshing to discover that it is not merely Blogger that drives people nuts with this kind of stuff. One advantage to blogger is that I can view any post in HTML and remove things I don’t want, or add things I do want, or fix things that it f***s up. Do you have the option of viewing your posts in HTML?
Given its capabilities, it might be much more complex than blogger’s, but still, if you can, and if you ever want me to take a look at it, I’m willing to do so along with relevant explanations.

  5. Technology is the way millenials torment us. They can’t leave well enough alone can they!!!

  7. Great pictures!
I blog from my iPad mostly so Block Editor is a wee bit easier on it.
I do need to take a look at it on my laptop but will have to wait as we are still having lots of family getting together here at the LakeHouse!
    Enjoy your poking around.
    Happy Tuesday!

  8. I’m with you Dawn! I have figured out the new editor a little but I don’t have the same control I did with the old one… 😦

    • Yes…my blog has used up 97% of allowed space…so I’ll have to figure out what to do soon. Don’t know if sticking with WordPress makes sense. On the other hand, I’ll have to keep paying to keep the blog up for an archive. So don’t know what I’ll do.

      • I have had those same thoughts. I’m currently using WP for my blog and another site for my portfolio. Not sure what the best options would be.

      • I pay for the personal version now and it seems to be working out okay. I just try really hard not to post many pics because that is what takes up all the space.

  9. I think wordpress likes to change things up because we get use to them. I hate the changes.

  10. I admire your “stick-with-it-ness” – I don’t have the patience for it.
Had a giggle at your chocolate chip cookie comment above.

  11. I’m sticking with the Classic, and WP is going to have to pry my cold fingers off it. Ain’t nobody got time to re-learn a system that worked so well. They should be ashamed of themselves. (Now, I feel much better for venting, and I’ll slip quietly off my soapbox!)

  12. Good to hear that blogger isn’t the only program to mess thing up and make them more confusing:(

  13. Interesting to see experimenting on this WP. I’m just starting to feel comfortable with how I post not understanding what method I’m using Classic or block. I’m sticking to it and I have no patience.

  14. I hate it too. You can remove a photo- click the 3 dots to the right of replace and there is an option to REMOVE. It takes me forever to do a post now- drives me crazy!!

  15. Also, while you are in “block” format- go the left side and click the image icon it will allow you to make a tiled gallery or a collage
