Princess Katie does Walktober with the Queen

Katie here. Things have been kind of boring in my world lately – as you may have noticed I haven’t gone on any adventures in forever. So this year’s Walktober seemed the perfect opportunity for me to kick it up a notch. Or ten.

The moms put us up here ’cause some really big dogs were coming. And because we are cute.

So I instructed mama to invite my friend Queen Abby (and her mom) to accompany me on my Walktober adventure. Abby was pretty excited about going on an adventure too. We think alike, Abby and me, mostly by ignoring each other. It works for us.

“Hey Katie, let’s not look at them when they take pictures of us, OK?”

Anyway, we met at Hudson Mills Metro Park down in Dexter which is near Ann Arbor Michigan. That way neither or our servants moms had to drive too far.

Queen Abby refused to smile, stating she was too regal to stoop to the paparazzi’s level.

It was a pretty day, though it started out foggy. But I don’t mind that, foggy means cool, and cool is, well cool to us shelties. We wait all year for the temperatures to drop so we can show off our beautiful but heavy coats for everyone to see

OK, maybe a little smile.

But I digress. I’m here to show you all the fall color, right? Hmmmm….down here in lower Michigan there’s isn’t that much color quite yet.

Mama says the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is at peak color right now. She’s not up there. I think she’s sad about that, but she sure wasn’t sad about going on an adventure with me!

A little bit of color against a beautiful blue sky.

Abby and I even put up with all the photos the moms wanted to take. As long as they didn’t want us to sit too close together we were willing.

Not going to look at you, mama.

And we managed to find some color under a couple of trees so that the moms felt like this walk qualified for a Walktober.

We paused to rest at this spot that was right next to a disc golf tee, so we got to see lots of guys throwing stuff. I thought that was facinating.

We had a wonderful time. The moms were very careful to let us rest as much as we wanted. After all, both I and the Queen are seniors now.

We sat in this pavilion, the concrete was nice and cold.

But we walked a good long way too, just real slow. The better to appreciate our adventure, you know.

Seriously Katie, does your mom always take so many pictures?”

I think Queen Abby was glad she granted me the playdate so we could go on on a Walktober together.

All hail the Queen!

And I was really glad to share my adventure with her too. But, eventually, we had to leave. We each went back to our waiting carriages.

I was disgruntled because my treats had not been placed in my private compartment as requested.

I don’t think Abby was quite ready to leave. I didn’t want to say goodbye either.

See you later sweet Abby-girl!

But I was ready for a nap, and slept most of the way home. Except when mama stopped to take pictures of barns. But I forbade her from showing those on my Walktober post!

Geeze mother!

I swear, that woman has no boundries! But I’ll forgive her, cause I had a stupendously fun day!

Talk later, your adventuring girl Princess Katie.

PS: Thank you to Miss Robin for hosting the Walktober again this year! It got mama to take me to a park, so I owe you!!

Come along with me, there’s another adventure just over here!

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. I am so glad you joined us again this year, Princess Katie. I can’t believe you got a Queen to go with you on your walk! How wonderful (and don’t tell her this but you’ll always be my favorite, Katie). You’ll have to pardon your mama. Sometimes those of us who take to photography forget that others don’t always understand the need to keep taking pictures of pretty things (and pretty princesses). That last shot of you, by the bridge, is beautiful. ❤

    • Thank you Miss Robin, I’m sort of used to mama taking too many pictures, after all, I’ve been posing for 15 years! I’m glad mama took me to the park to meet Queen Abby, I haven’t been able to go much of anywhere, this summer was so hot, and I didn’t feel so good, so my parents, being the helicopter parents they are, didn’t let me go on any adventures.

  2. Katie–you are hilarious! Your mom might have taken the photos, but your captions are the best! You and the Queen–you gals really are cute. ❤

  3. Katie, I’m so glad you got to have an adventure – and with a Queen too ! How exciting! Maybe it was good you’d saved up lots of energy so you could really enjoy your Walktober.

  4. Katie, it was so nice to see your Walktober post! I am glad that you had a nice time with Queen Abby. The photo of the two of you posing in the colorful leaves is one of my favorites. Did you share your insider information with Abby? You know, if mama wants a smile, she knows that it will cost her the agreed upon treats. I bet Abby would smile more often if she knew that she would get a treat! My favorite photo is of you (of course!) posing on the bridge – inviting us to join you on an adventure. Have a wonderful week beautiful Princess Katie!

    • Thank you Miss Denise! I did have a lot of fun at that park. Mama has taken me to a couple others now that it’s gotten cooler, but she won’t let me post. She says she’s too “busy.” Whatever. I will get my way, I always do…and I’m sure you’ll see photos soon.

  9. I giggled fiendishly at how the serf isn’t allowed to show any barn pics on this post.

  10. Princess Katie, you *always* have such interesting Walktober posts! And what a fabulous one this year, walking with a Queen! I love the shot of the two of you looking at each other while lying in the leaves. If you look closely, you can almost see a heart between you! Good for you, sticking to your guns about the No Barns rule. After all, your mama screwed up by not placing treats in your carriage, so she really should give you the sole spotlight, huh?!! Hugs from me and the little hooligan!

    • Thanks Miss Debbie, I hope the hooligan is settling down some, but not too much. Mama gets sad when I’m too quiet, but then again she gets mad when I’m not quiet enough. You’d think she’d just go with the flow, wouldn’t you?

  11. It’s good to see you and Abby out there enjoying October, Katie!
And I’ll bet you didn’t realize that your mom was not only taking this particular photo but also *making notes on what you two were saying*!!! What’s with that?! “Seriously Katie, does your mom always take so many pictures?” Sorry, Katie, but I laughed out loud.

    • Thanks Miss Ellen! We had fun! Oh yea, mama is always taking notes on what I’m saying. It’s part of her contract to document my adventures. You never know when I might want to write a memoir.

    • Hi Miss Helen! I don’t know if mama is going to get her own Walktober in…she had to go stay in Ann Arbor unexpectedly this week so she lost a lot of days. She has one in mind, but it might not work out as I have been getting sick when she’s out of town. So she feels like she needs to stay right by my side all the time now. I like that idea.
