Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

May is my favorite month hands down. I wish more of the year could be just like May.

So much hope resides in May. The gardens are just waking up, there’s still time to dream about what might be planted and harvested, before the heat of summer bakes the earth and the weeds and insects take over.

Walks in the woods in May are comfortable, a light breeze and sun filtering through newly opening leaves.

Lots of birds come back to town.

Trees are blooming.

Skies are blue. There’s so much to look forward to and I can hardly wait for summer.

But I want May to last a couple months first.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. You are so right. I would like May and October to last three months each… what think you? Beautiful images, Dawn.

  2. Of course May’s best. It’s my birthday month! Lovely images to help me celebrate – thanks!

  3. I agree with what you wrote about May but October is still my all time favorite month!

  4. I love May, too! Especially those tender shades of green.

  5. May was my late Dad’s favorite month, too, so I have a special fondness for it. The earth is just beginning to wake up from its long nap, and our weather is much more stable than in April. Of course, Fall is my favorite season, but Spring is a pretty close second!

  6. I am always astounded by the fact that, after a long winter, the plants know who they are and how to grow into what they were last year. Oh, I know some of the scientific “reasons” but I’m still amazed. Spring is glorious, especially the month of May.

  7. Awe… The sweet renewal of life after a long winter’s nap. May is quite beautiful here in the desert as well. We, too, have trees blossoming and new tender leaves. Wildflower season ends during May, but the cacti, including the saguaros, are all showing off their gorgeous blooms!
    Happy May!

  8. Your May is exactly like ours here in Eastern WA, Dawn, you described it perfectly. We are getting temps as high as 87F starting Friday. And I had hoped May would last two more months! Gorgeous pics!

  9. I agree, May is the best month! ❤️

  10. May is perfection!
