A week from Tuesday is Facebook’s Giving Tuesday. I’ll be putting up a fundraiser for the Truck Safety Coalition like I have for the past few years.

This year feels different than past years where I’ve promoted an upcoming Giving Tuesday off an on for a few weeks. This year there are other things going on in my life and Giving Tuesday has kind of snuck up on me.

Heck the whole holiday season has snuck up on me.
Regardless, I know many of you will support my effort to raise some funds for the Truck Safety Coalition. (If you didn’t read this post about our latest fundraiser, please give it a look.) You’re so good that way, supportive of an issue most people can’t imagine ever touching their own family.

That’s how we felt too, until it did.
I feel like a broken record when I say over and over that truck crashes are indiscriminate. They happen to people in all parts of the country, in every community, every religion, every political viewpoint. Young people, old people, people with kids. People’s kids. Nobody is immune.

So, next week, on Giving Tuesday, please take a moment and think about all of us in the Truck Safety family, a family we never wanted to join, but a family we’re all so very grateful to have found.

Sadly there have been new families joining us this year, people we need to comfort and support. Your dollars do that.

Thank you for supporting my mission to help those families, and to work on changing the way things are on our roads.

And thank you for supporting me, even when I’m on my soapbox.

Note: images in today’s post are from my last walk at Shiawasee Nature Preserve. I haven’t had time to share them with you, and I thought you’d like the distraction from such a serious topic.

Thanks for taking us on the walk with you. I’m guessing you sat still for quite a while to get most of those shots? Well done!

I was sitting on a bench eating an apple when the doe popped up almost right next to me. The fox I went looking for, there had been lots of images of the fox cubs this year and I knew where they were. There was a woman in a car feeding this one, which ticked me off, but it did afford me the chance to get some shots of him or her. The birds I did stand still for a long time. Except for the blackbird who was just singing his heart out and didn’t care that I was there.

Beautiful photos, Dawn! I know what you mean about things sneaking up on you — I’m facing some of the same things. But this is a worthy cause, so don’t give up on promoting it. And whether we personally know someone who’s been touched by truck safety, we can certainly all agree our roads need to be safer for everyone.

I won’t give up. Though sometimes it seems like such a steep incline.

What a beautiful collection of animals and birds here Dawn – it’s peaceful to look at these shots. I saw my first fox this year and I was excited. The doe looking at you – what a beautiful creature.

I think she was interested in the apple I was eating. But when that wasn’t offered she nonchalantly wandered down the trail.

A pose for you = a treat for me was her mindset. 🙂

Thank you. The photos? They were from a walk I did in September. I can’t believe I never got around to showing you all. I got really pretty lucky on that walk!

Thank you for being the voice of this cause. It impacts us all, but it’s easy to forget that. Your photos are, as usual, delightful.

You are welcome. Sometimes I think about whether me talking about it saves a life here and there because people that hear me start looking at driving around trucks differently. Sometimes I think I alienate people by writing about stuff that’s not happy and pretty.

Thanks for the reminder! I donated today, because giving shouldn’t have to wait for Tuesday (and I might forget).😊

My hat is off to you, Dawn for keeping this fight alive. You are right, truck accidents are indiscriminate and can happen to anyone.
Your photos are, of course, absolutely divine!
Good luck with the fundraising!
