I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

While I was out of town something dragged one of the bird feeders off into the bushes. I found it and put it, empty, on the deck. That evening, long before dark this little raccoon turned up, knocked the feeder over, realized there was nothing in it, and wandered away, only to peek up over the deck, through the railing, just to be sure there wasn’t something good somewhere. My camera had too slow a shutter speed….and I only had time for one shot…but I thought it was kind of cool in a impressionistic artsy kind of way.

Don’t you love it when you get an unexpected, wonderful shot despite camera settings and/or light not being optimal. ❤️

A little visitor, intent on stealing the birdfeeder (again) in order to gorge on oiler seeds as he’s been doing nightly. On this evening he showed up way before dark. See comments above about the camera.

Very cool. Those “mistakes” are ones we can never replicate on purpose!

Oh, dear. I’m surprised Monk and I didn’t hear Penny raising a ruckus all the way down here! They’re cute critters, but I sure don’t want them in my yard. Welcome home — hope your trip was relaxing and renewing.

I have similar photos of a huge opossum on our back porch.

We had one night where the ring camera captured two different cats and a opossum on our front porch, not at the same time, thankfully. But mostly all we see are neighborhood cats. Sometimes a racoon which is likely this guy (or girl).

Pretty cool photo! I think I have had raccoons get after the hummingbird feeders, but not the seed feeders, those are the domain of the squirrels and a select few chipmunks.

I’m pretty sure this racoon is the reason why my hummingbird feeder is empty most mornings. Plus he leaves muddy footprints up the side of the fireplace, so that’s how he gets to the hummingbird feeder. Little guy should learn to wash his feet so he’d leave fewer clues.

Busted! He/she is checking if the coast is clear to make a leap for the feeder. I hope you weren’t blaming the squirrels or chipmunks for raiding your bird feeders!

Oh we have plenty of squirrel and chipmunks here too. They raid in broad daylight and I let them. We are an equal opportunity feeder home.

Ha ha – well, you have to be because squirrels will find a way to do calisthenics to get to the feeder anyway. I wish we had chipmunks around here – they are so cute.
