Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Procrastination

It’s October. That means I should be writing a Walktober post. Penny has already done hers. I am slower than my dog. But that’s always been the case. She didn’t have photos to process, plus she had a servant to do all the work involved in posting.

I have photos to process for my Walktober.

Anyway, I’m home from two short back to back trips and now I’m behind in everything and today is my first attempt to catch up. So am I writing that Walktober post? Nope. I have a bunch of photos to process for that first. So let me take you on today’s little adventure.

I was doing errands, you know, the dry cleaner, the grocery store, the bank. Somewhere between the grocery parking lot and the bank this guy attached itself to my driver’s side window. He or she was hanging on for dear life as I was tooling along.

I pulled into an abandoned bank parking lot as soon as I noticed him. I got out, collected a couple red maple leaves from the bank’s decorative tree, and scooped the big ole bug up, intending to put him on the lawn under the tree.

He flew up my arm. I screamed like a girl. Then found him on the pavement by my feet.

I tried to shoo him toward the curb. That didn’t work. So I found a piece of wood from the bank’s mulch and he crawled up on that.

I deposited (see what I did there?) him and his stick in the grass. He seemed happy enough. I wish him well.

So what the heck is he?

(Sometime this week I hope to get that Walktober post up! But I have a lot of photos to sort through.)

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. I saw what you did there…. I scream like a girl, too when bugs jump on me. 😳

  3. Yeah, it’s one thing to look at them, but crawling on you, ha! 😀 It looks like a male katydid (females have large ovipositors).

  4. Is it a praying Mantis? I once heard it is illegal to kill them if it is (I know you didn’t kill it)

  5. Your good deed for the day! I was wondering if it was a katydid.

  6. I’d scream like a girl if it landed on me too, but if a spider or centipede landed on me, I’d be speechless, likely having fainted.

    • I run into a lot of spiders when I’m camping. Mostly daddy long legs which don’t freak me out too bad. Don’t know about the centipede though…that might freak me.

  8. “Screamed like a girl”?? Oh, I totally get it — big bugs flying at me evoke the same reaction!

  9. Katydid. And she did. 🙂 It’s likely a female katydid.

  10. I had one of these on my screen door last week. I spent quite a bit of time inspecting and oogling it and taking photos. We are kindred spirits! ❤️

    Good job saving her!

  11. I have a katydid photo on the blog from forever ago. I remember being fascinated with it when I discovered it on the screen door one morning. I DID see what you DiD there with the katyDID deposit! LOL

  12. I understand that it’s rare to see them during the day, so I’d say the katydid was bringing you a message of good fortune.
