Change Is Hard

Watching the sky

I’m in northern Michigan watching the sky. This makes me smile. I lost count of the number of shooting stars I saw last night. Never, of course, while my camera was recording.

Still, it was fun.

One more night and I’ll head home. Some little short furry thing is going to be upset if she finds out where I was. I’m camping in our favorite site at her favorite park. But she got air conditioning and I slept on the ground. I think it’s a wash.

She might not feel the same.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. Something has been going on since yesterday. I cannot ‘like’ your posts because it shows it ‘Loading…’ That is one beautiful sky, Dawn. Not saying a word to the little short furry one…. I will wait for her to post about this.

  2. I think she’d still be jealous 😉 A northern Mich. star gazing trip sounds nice. Hope you get in some good viewing tonight 🙂

  3. I thought about the meteor showers at sunset as I was making my way to bed with a book. Does that count for anything?

  4. Our local weather caster told us to get outside and look at the meteors — lucky you! It was cloudy here yesterday; maybe tonight will offer better viewing. I won’t tell Katie where you’ve been (but her excellent nose is going to know!)

    • I hope you got to see some. They were amazing. Yes, Katie is ticked off with me now. Glad to see me home, but nothing I do is making her happy. She’s definitely wanting to do something fun. She brought me a ball, asked to go for a walk, asked for her supper early, asked for a treat right after supper, and now she’s just standing there barking at me. Sigh. I might need to go back to camping.

  5. I was hoping you’d get to see the Perseid Meteor Shower!
    Good luck tonight getting photos!

    • Well for several reasons I didn’t try to get more photos last night. I had plans…but cyotes crying very close to the campground kept me in. I did get up to go to the bathroom about midnight and saw one on my walk there. I should have stayed up, but I was tired.

  6. So amazing to see the stars like that. My eyesight is not the best for distance.

    • They are pretty amazing. I was amazed that no one else from the campground was out in the field staring at the sky. It was a perfect night and I saw so many meterorites! It would have been cool to have a lot of people oooohing and ahhhhing.

  7. Sure is beautiful!! I won’t tell the furry one either, and your photos always make me SMILE! I have to thank you for the smiles!

  8. Fun to see all those stars anyway, whether they’re shooting or not. And the fire looks wonderful. I always loved sitting by the campfire.

    • I am so bad at making a fire, I had to take a picture of this one because it was pretty. I tried 3 nights and I had a couple sort of successful fires. Last night I roasted two marshmellows, just for tradition’s sake. I don’t even really like them these days, but still…what’s a fire without marshmellows!

    • Thank you. She’s not sure EXACTLY where I was but she’s pretty sure it’s somewhere she would have wanted to go (It’s her favorite park and I was in our favorite campsite) and she’s barking nonstop at the moment. At me. Sigh.

  10. I am so glad you got to see lots of meteors. We have gone out a few nights in a row here in Pennsylvania and there has been too much cloud cover and too many trees in the way!
    I’m glad you had fun!

  12. I used your great night sky photo on a recent camping article about driving less and staying longer. Thanks for the inspiration!

    • This year, for the first time ever, I am welcoming fall. For lots of reasons, among them this Covid thing…it just seems like if we can move along we will eventually figure out how to get past the worst of it. And the sooner we get to the November election the better. I’m not good with suspense. I just want that over, and of course I want the guy (and woman) I want to win.
