I’m sure Katie feels all the love and prayers you’ve been sending her. She always knew she was a celebrity, though sometimes her mama felt she carried that a bit too far, especially in her demands regarding treats durng photo shoots.
But I digress.

I just had a call from the doctor in charge of ICU where Katie is recovering. They are going to begin weaning her off of the IV pain meds and get her on oral meds today.
They offered her some chicken this morning and she just about bit their fingers off as she scarfed it down. I laughed and told the vet that Katie would eat chicken all day long if she was offered it. That she’s all about her food.

She has gone for a short walk, and they will get her out more today. She might be able to come home tomorrow. The vet sounded a little surprised at that, maybe she thought a 14 year old would be more frail.

The vet doesn’t know Princess Katie like we know Princess Katie, does she. Katie is a strong little girl, and very stubborn. She always gets what she wants.

I imagine what she wants about now are her own pillows (note plural, a princess must have multiple pillows) and her own water bowl and her own food and especially her own people.
Oh…and her squirrels. She doesn’t ever want to be derelict about her squirrel warning responsibilities.

We, Katie’s subjects, are gratefull for your love and support. It’s been a difficult couple of days, but it was easier with all of your messages. I’ll make sure Katie reads your well wishes when she gets home; I know she’ll want to tell you all about her experience herself.
In fact she’s probably asking them for a laptop as we speak.

Images in this post are from a walk I took yesterday afternoon after we knew she was doing OK. I walked a short nature trail at a park near me, sat on a bench and took a deep breath and said thanks to the universe that we get to keep our girl for awhile longer.

Yay Katie! I’m so glad to hear she’s doing well, which means you’re doing better too. Because when our furry kids are having problems, we suffer with them.

Blue is doing great… so so glad I have that guy.
I’ve had some eye/vision issues but things are heading in the right direction now. And, I’m losing my pandemic weight and getting more exercise. Yay!
Stay safe Dawn.

I hope if they send her home tomorrow she’s up to walking on her own and will eat and do her #2 without problems. And that I can manage her pain so she’s not hurting too bad. At the hospital she’s been on IV pain meds. I’m worried about what shape she’ll be in. But I’ll be glad to get her back, too.

Oh, that is wonderful! So happy she is doing better. There is nothing like loving and being loved by a Sheltie! Our boy will be happy to hear this as well. He said he’d chase some squirrels here for the Princess until she is back in her home turf. 🙂

Best to darling Katie! I have been thinking about her a lot. Yay to Katie for going after that chicken. A good appetite is always a promising sign. Will be waiting anxiously to hear more.

I’m glad she’s willing to eat too, though I didn’t think eating would be a problem. She’s a food hog. If she ever refuses food we will know she doesn’t feel well at all.

We are glad to hear Katie came through her gallbladder surgery an will be home soon. Why do we those appendages like appendix or wisdom teeth or gallbladders we don’t seem to need them?
Extra kisses for her nose from us.

The photos mirror this episode in your lives so well.
I dare venture to surmise that maybe one of the reasons Katie is doing so well is that she’s been treated to daily walks her whole life– unfailingly. Good physical condition doesn’t happen overnight. I don’t a couch potato dog would be pulling through as well.

Just catching up on reading your posts and was worried about you and your sweet Katie. I am so glad that she is wanting to eat and drink – that is always good. No wonder that the ICU staff is surprised that she is doing so well. Katie is a very determined girl and as always does things on her terms. I hope Katie is able to come home today, to her comfy pillows, her yard, and most importantly to her mama and dad who love her so dearly. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. Sending **hugs**
