…but change is certain.

Too early?

As you know, my community band played our holiday concert this past Thursday, exactly one week before the US Thanksgiving.

A snowy evening, perfect for holiday music.

I don’t know if we should blame Thanksgiving for being late or the Christmas Spirit for being early.

Waiting for his big entrance.

But I suggest we don’t blame at all but instead just sit back and enjoy the wash of holidays as they swirl around us.

The concert was fun to play. The audience was appreciative, the children were impressed with Santa (well, who isn’t impressed with Santa?).

The music flowed, the applause filled the hall, and cookies awaited in the lobby after.

You can’t ask for a better way to begin the holiday season.

And as I drove home, humming holiday music, as often happens, Sleigh Ride began playing on the radio.

Happy holidays, everybody. May we all find a little bit of time to enjoy the music.

    I’m glad the concert was fun and that everyone enjoyed it, but you know what impressed me most in this post? The snow! That is snow, right? I had to look three times before it really registered. We’d be happy with a little light frost — or even temperatures in the 40s, for all that!

    Fun photos and a grand time for you and the band! When Thanksgiving fall so late the Christmas season seems so rushed, but it always does seem rushed. I still have loads of leaves in the yard and lots to do ahead of a week away from teaching. Then it’s three weeks until Christmas break. Time waits for none. Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the holidays.

    We don’t do a holiday concert, much to my disappointment. Our fall concert was on Nov. 18 and went off okay, though. I guess since we’re sponsored through the college, we tend to follow their class schedule (and none of them wants to hang around any longer through the holiday season). I’ve long tried to prod our summer band director into gathering us together for a holiday concert, but she claims people have too much on their plates already. Sigh. I’m glad yours went well!

      Our Christmas concert is our most well attended and the one we get the most donations and sponsorships for. But of course we have the real Santa.

      Is your band made up mostly of college students? If so that would be hard, I’m sure they have finals in December and then they’re gone home for the rest of the month. We’re a band mostly of old folks who haven’t got as much to do!

        Community members make up probably half of our band, but our director is on staff at the university (and he wants to be home with his family!) I still think having a holiday concert would fly, but nobody seems willing to work out the details. I’ll just keep hoping!
